For a city its size NOTHING compares to Reykjavik. Maybe this quaint world capital has a Napoleon complex and feels a need to prove itself by boasting (rightfully) that it is home to the most sensational dining, incomparable shopping, extraordinary culture, jaw dropping nature, and biggest and best parties anywhere! On New Year’s Eve 600 tons of fireworks are detonated in the world’s northernmost capital. Krummi Travel will bring you front and center to the action exposing you to a celebration of light that can only come from Iceland. This four night, five-day exploration of Reykjavik and its environs will get your 2015 off to an explosive start! Pack your swimsuit, your sense of adventure, your childlike wonder, your flexibility, and your humor. Don’t let your naysayer friends and family (who are crybabies, cranks, and pantywaists) tell you that you are crazy. Welcome to the greatest private party in the world! Welcome to winter in Iceland!

Price includes roundtrip economy class flights from Boston to Keflavik, airport taxes, all ground transportation, the services of an amazing Icelandic guide who will totally put up with your nonsense, accommodation for 4 nights / 5 days at the Frost and Fire Hotel in Hveregardi, four breakfasts, four dinners including a gala New Year’s Eve din din with entertainment in Reykjavik, and surprises about which you have no business asking. Not included: Transportation to and from Boston, anything that has to do with your drinking habit, breakfast on the day of arrival, museum admissions, any extras like horseback riding, glacial super-jeep trip, admission to the Blue Lagoon, and lunches. Itineraries can and will be changed at the discretion of our guide due to weather conditions.

Personal and travel insurance are the responsibility of each individual.

December 28 / 29: Welcome to Iceland! Touring Reykjanes

Fly from Boston to Keflavik, Iceland on Icelandair. Upon arrival collect your bags. You may wish to hit the duty free shop for libations, as alcohol in Iceland is very expensive. ALCOHOL YOU PURCHASE MUST BE CONSUMED IN YOUR ROOMS NOT IN COMMON AREAS OF THE HOTEL. Waiting outside will be the smiling face of our guide while in Iceland. Go easy on him although he is well-versed regarding our antics. We’ll be whisked away to The Northern Light Inn for breakfast followed by a visit from a special friend. We will then take a tour of the otherworldly Reykjanes Peninsula. This extraordinary area holds many surprises. After a stop for lunch in Grindavik there will be an option to swim in the ethereal Blue Lagoon. For those who choose not to swim you will be taken on a hike (weather permitting) or to a museum. In the early evening you will check into your hotel. A group dinner will top off the end of a long day. After dinner you have the option of taking advantage of the hotel’s swimming pool and hot pot or walk around the hotel in search of the Northern Lights.

December 30: The South Coast

Board the van at 10:00 AM and spend a full day touring the superb south coast.

The geosites you’ll be visiting are varied and numerous and beyond mind boggling. Waterfalls, glaciers, basalt columns, lava beaches, the south has it all! There will be an option to take a super-jeep tour to the top of Myrdalsjokull Glacier. Those wishing to stay on the bus will be taken to the little village of Vik for strolling, photographing, and shopping. Be on the lookout for and ask about the Hidden People and Trolls! Dinner this evening will be on the shore at the venerable Vid Fjorubordid, in our humble opinion, one of the greatest meals in Iceland!

December 31: New Year’s Eve!!!!!!!!!

Today will be a long day so we’ll lay low at the hotel and pamper ourselves (perhaps take advantage of the hotel’s spa services!), maybe stroll around the town looking suspicious, or take a hike. Later in the afternoon we’ll set out for Reykjavik. Dinner and entertainment this evening will be at beautiful Idno on Tjornin (the pond) in the heart of Reykjavik. Where you will be viewing the fireworks will be dictated by weather conditions. Flexibility is key when you travel to Iceland. Regardless of our location you are in for an unforgettable experience!

January 1: New Year’s Day: The Open Road

We’ll sleep in late this morning! Today we will take a road trip to wherever weather conditions are best. Perhaps we’ll hike. The weather will dictate our adventure. Dinner this evening will be at our hotel.

January 2: Explore Reykjavik and Head for Home

Pack your bags. After breakfast we’ll set off for a few hours of power shopping and museum hopping in Iceland’s quaint capital. You may opt to go horseback riding! We can give you tips on where to find the best sweaters and souvenirs, or perhaps you would simply like to immerse yourself in Iceland’s history and culture at The National Museum or Culture House. Don’t miss out on the hottest hot dog on the planet at Bæjarins Beztu. At 2:00 P.M. board the van for Keflavik Airport and your flight back to Boston. Arrive in Boston at 6:35PM carrying your hot dogs, raw legs of lamb, cheeses, skyr and other Icelandic delicacies that are all legal because you just visited the tidiest place on earth!
